Citygate Automotive has introduced sales of Škoda cars to Europe’s largest Volkswagen car dealership as part of a £2million makeover of VW West London.
Work on the four-storey car retail centre, which opened in 2014 and is located just off the M4 motorway on Capital Interchange Way, Brentford, took more than 16 months, having started in July 2020.
Ruislip-based car retail group AM100 acquired the Inchcape site in January last year and said today (17 December) the site was ‘one of the first in the UK to present the VW and Škoda brands under one roof”.
Citygate West London Division Director Daniel Stone said: “We are delighted to relaunch this fantastic sales, service and experience center for our customers, and to welcome Škoda to the building.
“Under normal circumstances this would have been a major undertaking, but the impact of the pandemic has made this all the more difficult.
“Thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our staff and contractors, we were able to continue to interact during the project and now look forward to welcoming customers back to the showroom in all its glory.”
Citygate was able to continue to market from its West London VW dealership throughout the development work undertaken on the site.
Among the new features added is a display of historic and performance cars as well as a children’s entertainment area.
Citygate Automotive has confirmed its acquisition of Inchcape Retail’s Volkswagen dealerships in west London and Twickenham in January 2020 – six weeks after AM announced the impending deal.
The move came six months after Inchcape sold five car and van franchises – in Chelmsford, Colchester, Romford and Southend – to Group 1 Automotive.
In October last year, it acquired the West London Škoda franchise from Lookers.
Earlier this week, Citygate announced an expansion of its VW franchise car retail business with the opening of its new Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles van center in St Albans.
The opening increased the VW brand’s network of van centers to 63 and its network of authorized repairers to 33 across the UK.
Founded in 2005, Citygate today employs over 650 people and operates 14 dealerships in London and the Home Counties, representing Volkswagen, VW Commercial Vehicles, Škoda, Seat, Cupra and Kia.
It also operates five body shops, two stand-alone PDI centers, a new car storage center and five TPS outlets.
